چکیده

This paper provides an analysis on the various plasma effects on polymers exposed to atmospheric-pressure DBD. Homogeneous diffuse DBD, in symmetrical electrode configuration, working in He and He+O2 is used. The discharge is characterized by electric parameters measurement, whereas the surface is analyzed using contact angle measurement and XPS. The surface modification depends on the level of oxidation achievable, which is limited by the competition between functionalization and ablation, and by the intrinsic oxygen content of the polymer. The effect of oxygen due to residual air, inherently present in discharges at atmospheric pressure, on the surface modification, is demonstrated.

Simulation of a Helium Atmospheric Plasma Jet Using Fluid Equations

In this study, a cold atmospheric He plasma jet is investigated. The jet is of dielectric barrier discharge type, consisting of a dielectric tube with two metal ring electrodes. The continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations as well as the Poisson equation for obtaining the potential and the electric field, accompanied with the ideal gas laws, are used for the simulation. The result...

Surface Decontamination by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma

Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...

Optical Emission Spectroscopy of Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barrier Discharge

Diffuse coplanar surface barrier discharge (DCSBD) as the source of nonequilibrium plasma is widely used nowadays for surface modification of different materials. DCSBD plasma consists of many microdischarges which are moving along the planar dielectric plate and create a thin layer of macroscopically homogeneous plasma above dielectric. The influences of humidity in carrier gas at atmospheric ...
